Territorial Acknowledgement

The STA humbly and gratefully acknowledges that we are situated on the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, who have been the stewards and protectors of this land since time immemorial. We express our deepest appreciation to the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples and wholeheartedly commit ourselves to the path of reconciliation, guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action.

In the ancestral story of ȽÁU,WELṈEW̱, W̱SÁNEĆ, which means ‘the emerging people,’ we recognize the resilience embedded within the W̱SÁNEĆ culture. It is an honour to reside in this territory and learn from the rich heritage that the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nation embodies.

Within the Saanich Peninsula, the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nation comprises four distinct First Nation bands: BOḰEĆEN – Pauquachin, SȾÁ,UTW̱ – Tsawout, W̱JOȽEȽP – Tsartlip, and W̱SÍḴEM – Tseycum First Nation. We extend our sincere gratitude to each of these communities for their remarkable stewardship of the land throughout generations.

We recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and we commit to approaching it with humility, empathy, and a dedication to learning.

With utmost gratitude, we honour the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples and express our unwavering commitment to working together towards a future founded on truth, respect, and unity.
